the world is thinking..

Question is, are you?

Playlist – May 2008 Week #3

The theme of the week shouldn’t be too difficult to notice upon glancing through the songs :)

Mr Pit – Love You More

After listening to it once on GDJB, it’s been stuck in my head ever since. Assaulting me when I least suspected of it, this is one of those addictive and immense tracks that made me remember why I love trance so much. I’d love to see a remix top this original mix!

Mariah Carey – I Stay In Love

And I know we said let go
But I kept on hanging on
Inside I know it’s over
You’re really gone
It’s killing me
Cause there ain’t nothing
That I can do
Baby, I stay in love with you

And I keep on telling myself
That you’ll come back around
And I try to front like ‘Oh well’
Each time you let me down
See I can’t get over you
Now no matter what I do
Baby, baby
I stay in love with you

Probably my favourite female singer of all time, and in my humble opinion the most phenomenal female artiste of our time, MC has again and again produced chart-toppers which oozes of her trademark soulful melodies. I haven’t really had time to seriously listen to her latest album, E=MC²; but there were a few gems that I took a liking upon the first hearing. The rest were … meh. Anyhow, I kinda fancied this tune and forsee it to be huge!

Leona Lewis – Bleeding Love

Saw her perform live on Ellen ( Was channel surfing because the judge was taking WAY too long reading out the final verdict on the Pedra Blanca case ) and she was impressive, to say the least. I have a feeling this song has been flooding the airwaves for the past few months, but I have better things to listen to than mainstream pop when 90% of them sounds more like noise than music.

The actual MTV can be easily youtube-d but rights to embed has been taken away, unfortunately.

Playlist – May 2008 Week #2

Mmmmm it’s been a while huh. The worst part of exams would be this apathetic seclusion from the world that a student has to embrace.

Kaskade & Deadmau5 – Move For Me (Original Mix)

These 2 are fast becoming some of my favourite DJs/producers. Kaskade really knows how to churn out quality vocal tracks while Deadmau5 is sick with remixes. Put them together, and the only question that comes to mind is ” Why didn’t this happen sooner? ” Think blueberry + pancakes, sushi + wasabi, chips + salsa sauce… you get the idea.

Sunlounger feat. Zara – Crawling (DJ Shah Rework)

If you’re chilling out at the beach , enjoying the breeze with your preferred drink in your hand, this is one of the essential songs that should be playing in the background. DJ Shah is famous for his balearic-sounding tunes and this is one of his masterpieces. Indeed, this track does a great job at blurring the boundaries between deep progressive trance and ambient music.

Sarah Mclachlan – Sweet Surrender

You take me in
no questions asked
you strip away the ugliness
that surrounds me
Are you an angel?
am I already that gone
I only hope
that I won’t disappoint you
when I’m down here
on my knees
And sweet
sweet
sweet surrender
is all that I have to give

Tragic yet beautiful – I find her description apt in many ways. Sarah Mclachlan is such a talented performer that she gives me goosebumps whenever she sings live.

Nation Builders – A short film by Martyn See

The wealth generated by Singapore’s much-touted economic success story has not benefited everyone, least of all its senior citizens, a.k.a. the nation builders. Filmed on the streets and back-alleys of downtown Singapore in July 2007, this video does not contain any enactments or acting. Directed, shot and edited by Martyn See. Running time : 14 minutes.

What can I say? This is absolutely heart-breaking. We have a government in denial on one hand, and a majority of the Singaporean population fed with propaganda and a web of lies on the other.

It’s outrageous how the same people who made Singapore what it is today, are the same people rummaging through the dark alleys at night, salvaging waste materials to barely scrape through a living.

A necessary hiatus

With my preparations for the upcoming exams taking precedence over nearly everything else, this blog falls victim too.

All the best to everyone who are taking/have taken their exams, and hopefully I’ll make it back in one piece after this arduous journey.

Meanwhile, I highly recommend BBC’s World Have Your Say programme as mental nourishment for the insipid and unaware. The link can be found on my blogroll.
